Our Kids... "Our Future"

Our aim in publishing this magazine is to promote public awareness and support for our most valuable future resource... Our Kids.

Back to School

'Back to School' is filled with articles containing useful information and stories for parents and families on the journey from early education to graduation as an adult

The world in which our children are growing up in, is vastly different to the one that we grew up in. The changes in our society, both good and bad, occur at a much faster pace and make not only the job of parenting an increasingly difficult one, but the road to learning, developing, maturing and generally surviving the journey to adulthood, a rocky one. Guiding our kids through the minefield of peer pressures, drugs, changing moral beliefs and manners, fast foods, inappropriate internet viewing and games, to name just a few can be hard work. As a mother of four grown children with one grandchild and a vast history in the child care industry, I speak from experience. I also know what a rewarding, fulfilling, loving journey it can be. All of us, whether parents, grandparents, family members, friends or neighbours, have a responsibility, a duty of care, to all children. We have focused on current issues in our publication that we hope you not only enjoy reading, but encourage you to pause in your busy day and think about the children in your world. The joy they bring you, the love and warmth, the funny things they do generate the hopes and dreams we have for them… Our Kids, Our Future.

'Back to School' takes a look at the benefits of children's education and the issues they face, both good and bad. Each year our children start a new chapter of growth and adventure in their school environment. As they mature and develop they learn to cope with a changing array of challenges, emotions and decisions. As parents we try to guide them and provide a happy, safe and stable environment to better assist their journey through pre-school to university. Often, watching our children learn to cope with study demands, decisions about their future and peer pressure is even more stressful on us as parents than our kids.

Our Kids... "Our Future" Edition 19

In the current edition of Our Kids... "Our Future" we take a look at Refugee Children around the world. Nearly half of all refugees are children, and almost one in three children living outside their country of birth is a refugee. In addition to facing the direct threat of violence resulting from conflict, forcibly displaced children also face various health risks, including: disease outbreaks and long-term psychological trauma, inadequate access to water and sanitation, nutritious food, and regular vaccination schedules. Forcibly displaced children and their families often face discrimination, poverty, and social marginalisation in their home, transit, and destination countries. Plus more inside this edition.
